US Seventh Fleet's Command Ship Arrives in Shanghai

U.S. Seventh Fleet's Command Ship Arrives in Shanghai
The US Seventh Fleet's command ship docked in Shanghai Friday afternoon for a four-day visit.

The Blue Ridge, with 1,010 officers, sailors and marines, was welcomed by the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy officers and sailors.

Commander Zhao Guojun of the PLA East China Sea Fleet extended a warm welcome on behalf of Shi Yunsheng, commander of the Chinese PLA Navy, and hoped the port visit will enhance friendship between the two navies and the two countries.

Seventh Fleet Commander Metzger Sadler said he was optimistic about the future of naval exchanges between the US Navy and the PLA Navy, and he expected this kind of visit to continue.

During the port visit, officers and sailors of the two navies will exchange visits to each other's warships and hold sports games and other activities.

This is the Blue Ridge's third China visit following previous visits in 1989 and 1998.
