Gov't, NGOs Join Hands to Promote IT to Masses

A district committee will be set up in each of the 18 districts to promote and coordinate the use of information technology (IT) at grassroots level, a senior IT official said Friday.

The Director of Home Affairs Department Shelley Lee said at a meeting on promoting use of IT that there is a great demand, particularly among people at grassroots level, to learn IT.

The district IT committees, which is to set up by phases within the next 12 months, will coordinate the input of resources and expertise from the government, Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), districts leaders and the private sector, Lee said.

Lee noted that this keen interest in IT is evident in the 12 million hits each month recorded by the 228 cyber points installed by her department at its community halls and centers throughout the territory.
