Cambodia Hosts Sub-Regional Meeting on Airline Cooperation

The fourth meeting of the directors general of civil aviation of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam (CLMV) was held here on Thursday to seek closer cooperation on airline services in order to improve their economic development.

At the opening of the 4-day meeting, Sok An, Cambodia's senior minister and minister of the council of ministers, said "air transportation liberation in the sub-region of the Southeast Asia (CLMV) must be progressively and advantageously sustaining fair opportunity for each country to participate in and exploit the international market of air transportation which also links to the ASEAN framework."

"The Royal Government of Cambodia has agreed and firmly supported such cooperation" based on "the principle of fairness, mutual interests for all concerned nations," he added.

Sok An urged Cambodia's partners to further promote such cooperation.

"We are taking into account on how to achieve such objective, all countries (CLMV) must strongly promote and strengthen air transport cooperation in these sub-region as well as the cooperation of trade, tourism and legal system," he said, adding that "the Royal Government of Cambodia is ready and willing to cooperate in these fields with our counterparts Laos, Myanmar, and the Vietnam."

The third meeting of such topic was held in Vientiane from March 21 to 23, 2000 and adopted the long-term plan of action.
