Ethiopia's Ruling Party Condemns Dissent Group

The ruling Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) has issued a resolution condemning a group dissenting from its major affiliate, the Tigary People's Liberation Front (TPLF), the Ethiopian News Agency reported Thursday.

After investigating reports presented by the TPLF Central Committee, the EPRDF confirmed that the dissent group has violated the statutes of both the TPLF and the EPRDF.

The TPLF has the right to take any action with regard to its internal matters, the EPRDF resolution said, adding that the TPLF also has the right to change and sack its members represented to the EPRDF council or to the executive committee.

There will not be any EPRDF affiliated organization that can take part in an illegal act designed to endanger the unity of the front, the EPRDF said, urging members of the TPLF dissent group to immediately return the property and document they have taken from the EPRDF.

The TPLF is a dominant organization within the EPRDF, an alliance which also comprises Amhara National Democratic Movement and Oromo People's Democratic Organization.
