China Plays Bigger Economic Role in Asia-Pacific Region: ExpertWhile economic situations in big powers like the United States and Japan are declining, China is playing an even greater economic role in the Asia-Pacific Region.This remark was made by Robert G. Lees, secretary-general of the Pacific Basin Economic Council (PBEC), in an exclusive interview with Xinhua Thursday. China has showed its economic momentum with its strong RMB currency, persistence in its reform and opening up policies, and its fast development, Lees said, noting that all the economic policies the Chinese government has adopted are correct. Being the host for a series of APEC meetings this year, China will take the opportunity to increase mutual understanding and trust with other economies in the Asia-Pacific Region, he said. The expert expressed his hope that China will be admitted into the World Trade Organization (WTO) as soon as possible. The PBEC will hold its 34th international conference in Tokyo, April 6-10. China will send a 40-member delegation to the meeting. |
