Mercedes Benz, BMW Best Sellers in Taiwan

Mercedes Benz and BMW were the most popular foreign car brands in Taiwan market during the first 20 days of this month, according to reports from Taipei.

According to statistics compiled by local car dealers, a total of 2,775 units of the most popular five brands of foreign cars were sold in Taiwan during the 20-day period, up 25.1 percent from the same period in February, with Mercedes Benz and BMW the best sellers.

A total of 463 Mercedes Benz automobiles were sold in the first 20 days of March, accounting for 16.7 percent of the local foreign car market. The 463 units represented a fall of 3.7 percent compared to the volume of the same period in March 2000, but reflected an increase of 92.1 percent compared to the first 20 days of last month.

At the same time, a total of 268 BMWs were sold, accounting for 9.7 percent of the local foreign car market. BMW sales volume during the period was up from an annual 9.4 percent and a monthly 44.1 percent.

Toyota was in third place during the same period, with 249 units sold and market share of nine percent. Toyota unit sales declined by 21.9 percent compared to the previous month, and by 47. 2 percent from the same-period figure posted a year ago.
