China's Geospace Double Star Exploration Program Launched

As recently announced in Beijing China National Space Administration (CNSA) has formally launched Geospace Double Star Exploration Program (GDSEP). The execution of the program is of great significance to the research of cosmic physics and the creative ability in the forecast and prevention of disastrous disturbances caused by cosmic activity and geo-space environment. Therefore it will do good to boosting the development of geo-space observation and the research of cosmic physics.

GDSEP is consisted of two small satellites with one to be operated in the equatorial orbit and another in the polar sphere in a vacant space where the international geo-spatial satellites have not yet covered.

The major objective of the project lies in observing and mastering the movement rules of electro-magnetic field and energy particles in the two magnetic stratums in the vicinity of the equator and pole areas.

As reported, the 23rd cycle of frequent movement of the sun has just started. Therefore, some geospace disasters may occur more frequently in the following two or three years. Scientifically speaking, it is the best time for doing the research and exploration of cosmic physics between the earth and the sun. Scientists will find the best time to launch the two small satellites.

GDSEP was first put forward by Liu Zhenxing, an academician of physics science with CAS. It is also an important project of CNSA and ESA, the first time for China to do in cooperation with its international partners by our own advanced project in the cosmos.
