The Macao meteorological station inaugurated Friday more weather forecast services for the public, including warning against lightening, indices of ultraviolet rays and indices of air quality.

Macao also put into operation its fourth automatic air- monitoring station on this World Meteorological Day.

The news was released at a celebrating meeting with the participation of officials and meteorological experts of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China.

A local volunteer was praised for his continuous and outstanding contributions to Macao's meteorological work. The theme of the 2001 World Meteorological Day, set by the World Meteorological Organization, is "Volunteer -- Weather, Climate and Water".

Ao Man Long, secretary for transport and public works of the SAR government, hopes the meteorological station make further efforts to provide excellent weather services for local people.
