Kim Jong Il Meets CPC LeaderThe two sides briefed each other on their respective domestic situations and exchanged views on the further development of friendly cooperative relations between the two parties and the two countries, and on regional and international issues as well as other issues of mutual concern. The two sides agreed that at the invitation of Kim, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese President Jiang Zemin will pay an official goodwill visit to the DPRK this year. Kim said that during his two visits to China in May last year and January this year respectively, he was delighted to see the great achievements scored by the Chinese people in their reform and opening-up drive. He stressed that the WPK and the Korean people cherish friendship with China, initiated and nurtured by leaders of the past generations of the two countries, and are willing to make efforts, together with the Chinese side, to continuously consolidate and strengthen the friendly cooperative relations to the benefit of two peoples, so as to make new contributions to peace and stability in the region and the world at large. The DPRK side expressed heartfelt gratitude for China's free assistance. Zeng, also member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, said that the traditional friendship between the two parties, two countries and two peoples is deeply rooted in the hearts of the two peoples. He noted that the China-DPRK friendly cooperative relations have entered a new stage of development at the beginning of the new century, thanks to efforts of top leaders of the two countries. He added that both the CPC and the Chinese people will, as always, implement the consensus reached by general secretaries of the two parties on the development of relations between the two parties and two countries. Zeng arrived here Tuesday on a four-day goodwill visit to the DPRK at the invitation of the WPK.
