More International Shipping Giants Flock to Shanghai

Among the world's top ten shipping giants, six of them in China are headquartered in Shanghai and what's more, all of them have selected Shanghai Huangpu area as their locations. This is a great boon for Shanghai to develop itself into one of the world's leading shipping centers in the 10th Five Year Plan period.

The six shipping giants' headquarters in China are Denmark Maersk (China) Shipping Company, Mitsui O.S.K.Lines, Nippon Yusen Kaisha, Yau Lee (China) Holdings Limited, P&O Nedlloyd and ACS (China) and the Number 1 Maersk has more than 100 container cargoes with volume reaching 10,000 tons. These shipping giants are situated in Zhonghui, Ganglu, Baiteng, Jiefang buildings in Yan'an and Fuzhou roads, thus turning the Huangpu into the most concentrated port area in China.

According to a survey, Shanghai became the world's third largest harbor next only to Rotterdam and Singapore in 2000 and the port jumped to the sixth place in terms of container volume. Up to now, more than 70 domestic and foreign shipping companies are seeking to run their businesses in Shanghai.
