Taiwan's Manufacturing Sector Records Worst Negative Growth Since 1975

Taiwan's manufacturing sector recorded a 4.79 percent decline in production during January and February this year, marking its worst negative growth since the first oil crisis in 1975, Taiwan's local media reported Thursday.

Compared with the first two months of last year, the cumulative total of Taiwan's industrial production during January and February this year dropped 4.25 percent, though the February total showed an increase of 9.07 percent, the reports said.

Meanwhile, export order for the island's products in January and February totaled 21.8 billion U.S. dollars, a slight increase of 1.8 percent over the same period last year.
