Beijing to Increase Per Capita Green Acreage to 45 Square Meters

News from Beijing Greenery Committee said that during the 10th Five Year Plan period (2001-2005), the city is going to increase its forestry coverage rate to 48 percent and per capita acreage to 45 square meters, an increase of 10 square meters over the 9th Five Year Plan period (1996-2000).

This year, the capital city will complete the construction of 35,000 mu of green separation block and an additional green acreage of 22,500 mu. It will also afforest 473,000 mu of land in suburban areas and plant 10 million trees to form a network rounding the farmland and embellish hillsides with trees to 200,000 mu. Citizens and enterprises will volunteer to plant 4 million trees to make the city more beautiful and green.
