Injured Workers in Explosion Under Treatment

Problems arising from an explosion accident Sunday morning at a Taiwan-funded plastic plant in Dongguan, south China's Guangdong Province are being handled well.

The explosion took place when workers of Zhengdian Plastic Plant in Lianhu village were cleaning machines and the floor at the molding workshop with a kind of flammable liquid detergent. In the explosion, one worker was killed and another 27 injured, including 22 seriously injured.

All the injured workers have received proper medical treatment at local hospitals after the accident, said local sources.

According to the sources, a special leading group has been set up by the Tangxia Township Government to handle all problems arising from the accident.

There are 25 special reception teams, with 130 members, that have been specially organized to take charge of visits and accommodations of the relatives of the injured and the dead.

Meanwhile, the township government has also organized relevant local departments to do a good job of demobilizing the workers from the plant.

Workers were told to find new jobs in other places after having received their salaries. By Tuesday, more than 70 workers received their salaries and left the plant.

In a related development, police are now pursuing Ma Yuliang, a suspect who might have caused the explosion and fire in the Taiwan-funded plant.

Ma used to clean the workshop floor and the machines in spite of earlier warnings that this might be dangerous. The suspect escaped after the accident, and local police started searching form him on Sunday night.

Dongguan, a boom town famous for export-oriented processing trade, is home to 13,000 overseas-financed businesses, with investors from more than 20 countries and regions.
