Macao to Hold World Table Tennis ChampionshipsMacao Special Administrative Region (SAR) will hold the 3rd World Men's Club Table Tennis Championships from May 31 to June 3.A total of 12 teams from worldwide, consisting of more than 70 athletes, will participate in the event, Manuel Silverio, president of the Macao Sport Development Board, announced at a press conference Wednesday. The SAR plans to pour 1.875 million patacas (US$234,400) of funds into the event. The total sum of the prize money will reach US$150,000. Manuel said that the event will push forward the development of the table tennis sports in Macao, and local people will have the chance to see a brilliant match. Audience will be free of charge. Shanghai and Tangshan cities held the 1st and 2nd championships in 1999 and 2000, respectively. |
