Settle Kosovo Crisis Under Yugoslav Sovereignty: RussiaRussian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov said Tuesday in Pristina, capital of Kosovo Province of Yugoslavia, that the Kosovo crisis could only be resolved under the sovereignty of Yugoslavia.Ivanov made the remarks before leaving Pristina for Macedonia after making a one-day visit to Kosovo. The law and order situation in Kosovo could not return to normal unless its borders with Albania and Macedonia are completely sealed off to bar ethnic Albanian extremists from crossing freely, Ivanov told reporters. The mission must be accomplished with the joint efforts of the peacekeeping forces in Kosovo and Yugoslav forces, he added. He also said the return of the Yugoslav troops to Kosovo is "an important step in the right direction." Last week, with approval from the peacekeeping forces in Kosovo, the Yugoslav authorities deployed its troops in the section of southern Serbia's buffer zone that borders Macedonia. The zone was established in June 1999 to separate Kosovo and the rest of Yugoslavia's main republic, Serbia. Before arriving in Kosovo, Ivanov visited Belgrade, where he held talks with Yugoslav leaders on the current situation in the Balkan region. |
