Macao to Hold World Table Tennis Championships

Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) will hold the 3rd World Men's Club Table Tennis Championships from May 31 to June 3.

A total of 12 teams from worldwide, consisting of more than 70 athletes, will participate in the event, Manuel Silverio, president of the Macao Sport Development Board, announced at a press conference Wednesday.

The SAR plans to pour 1.875 million patacas (US$234,400) of funds into the event. The total sum of the prize money will reach US$150,000.

Manuel said that the event will push forward the development of the table tennis sports in Macao, and local people will have the chance to see a brilliant match. Audience will be free of charge.

Shanghai and Tangshan cities held the 1st and 2nd championships in 1999 and 2000, respectively.
