Appraisal for Brand-Name Products to be Kicked off

To make China's brand-name products more popular and promote the development of such products so as to raise the competitiveness of Chinese products in domestic and foreign markets, China Brand Name Strategy Promotion Committee was inaugurated on March 20.

According to the reports, the committee will take up the work of appraising, managing, advertising and developing China's brand-name products, and the appraisal work will soon get started and this year will see the first batch of brand-name products assessed by the committee.

By the end of 2000, some 30 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities had already set up such institutions for the promotion of China's brand-name products, with more than 6,000 kinds of brand-name products of provincial-level brought into the open.

Wang Qinping, vice president of China State Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision said that the appraisal work is a systematic project, and we should set up a scientific and promotional mechanism based on the market rule with guidance and supervision by the government as the guarantee to satisfy customers. He called on the committee to insist on the principle that the appraisal of brand-name products should be based on voluntary application by enterprises, on the evaluation of the market and consumers and do it justly, fairly and openly. We would rather have fewer products of good quality than many inferior ones, and those well-known brands should be kept authoritative, said Wang.
