Major Greenhouse for Planting Orchids
A Taiwan-based company is running a big greenhouse growing orchids at an agricultural high-tech zone in Hulan County in northernmost China's Heilongjiang Province.
The Gardening Company of Sanyi Group of Taiwan boasts an air conditioned and energy-saving greenhouse, in which more than 70 species of orchid are growing exuberantly.
The 2,400 square-meter conservatory provided more than 20,000 orchids last year and as many as a million saplings to consumers in Beijing, Guangzhou, the United States and Japan.
Zhao Zhengtong, manager of the company, said the orchid is quite popular among people and the group company is supposed to invest further.
So far, the Sanyi Group has set up five greenhouses on the mainland of China. Ji Dianbin, director with the zone, said the cooperation with Taiwan enterprise is to probe the possibility of planting orchids in areas with colder climates and thus search for a new growth area for the local economy.
The local administration will offer efficient service for enterprises, Ji pledged.
