Liberian Government Orders Guinea, S. Leone Ambassadors to LeaveLiberian government has ordered the ambassadors of neighboring Guinea and Sierra Leone to leave the country within seven days, according to reports Tuesday from the country's capital Monrovia."The two ambassadors have been given seven days to leave the Republic of Liberia," according to a statement from the Liberian foreign ministry. The statement declared each of them "persona non grata for acts incompatible with his diplomatic status", but it did not explain what precisely the two were alleged to have done. In January, Liberia has recalled its ambassador from Guinea. The three member countries of the Mano River Union, which is intended to promote cooperation and economic development, have seen increasing conflict on their common borders since early this year. Sierra Leone and Guinea called the United Nations Security Council for sanctions on Liberia, saying that Liberia is going on supporting for Sierra Leonean rebels as well as armed rebel groups in Guinea. The Liberian government was given two months by the UN Security Council to prove it has withdrawn its support for rebels or face sanctions. However, Liberia, in turn, accused the two neighboring countries of harboring dissidents in a bid to overturn its government. |
