Beijing Encounters Record High Temperature

It's still early spring, but more Beijingers have put on T-shirts and skirts recently.

The temperature in Beijing Tuesday hit 23.5 degrees Celsius, which is confirmed to be the highest in the corresponding period over the past five decades.

Beijing has been experiencing continuous warm days since last week, which has contributed to the northward airflow, plenty of sunshine and the dry air, according to Sun Jisong, senior engineer of Beijing Meteorological Station.

In the early spring period, Beijing used to encounter its highest temperature of 27 degrees Celsius on Mar 20, 1941, according to meteorological records.

Beijing's spring always features big differences in temperature due to frequent transformation between cold and warm airflow, said Sun, and it is not unusual to see such high temperatures for the time being.
