Joint Concert by Top Three Tenors to be Held on Schedule

The world's top three tenors - Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras - have recently affirmed that their joint concert set at China's imperial Forbidden City will be staged according to schedule.

The concert, slated for June 23 - International Olympic Day - will be the first joint performance by the three in China and distinguished statesmen and celebrities worldwide will be on the guest list, according to the organizer.

Some 20 days after International Olympic Day, the International Olympic Committee will decide on the hosting rights of the 2008 Olympics, which Beijing is bidding for. The performance, jointly sponsored by the Beijing municipal government and the Beijing 2008 Olympic Bidding Committee, is considered an important part of the bidding effort.

The concert, with a predicted total expense of several million U.S. dollars, is expected to become China's most expensive foreign exchange activity so far, and the inviting message for international cooperation and investment has already been sent.

The three top tenors have previously said that the vigor created by China's reform and opening up as well as the people's enthusiasm towards art made them happy to make their tour.
