Ethiopia Earns Over 290 Million US Dollars From ExportEthiopia has earned 293 million US dollars from its export in the past six months, a 10 percent increase compare with the same period of last year, the Ethiopian Customs Authority said Monday.The data issued by the authority showed that coffee was still at the top of the export products, earning more than 99 million dollars followed by skin and hides that earned 28 million dollars. Chiat, a mild stimulant herb, also ranked the third registering more than 24 million dollars and the remaining revenues were obtained through the exports of other products such as gold, oil seeds, textiles and sugar. Ethiopian export sector has seen a 61.1 percent growth in term of volume among which gold occupied 752 kilograms, compared to the 352 kilograms in the same period of last year. Ethiopia also exported about 54.5 million kilograms of sugar, generating more than 8 million dollars in the past six months, and the country has managed to export 37,300 tons more of sugar in coming six months alone than what it did during the last budget year, which was 17,200 tons, according to the statistics. During the fiscal year of 1999 and 2000, Ethiopia had earned about 450 million dollars from its export. |
