China Welcomes EU's Decision not to Sign Anti-China Human Rights Bill

China has extended its welcome Tuesday to European Union (EU)'s decision not to sign an anti-China human rights bill proposed by the United States and submitted to the United Nations' annual human rights conference in Geneva.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao made the above remarks Tuesday at a routine press conference, noting the decision made by the EU Council of Foreign Ministers on March 19 is helpful to the dialogue, exchange and development in the field of human rights between China and EU.

Zhu also called on EU to adopt an objective and just approach to human rights conditions in China as well as to play a "positive" and "constructive" role in the UN human rights meeting.

China has always protected human rights and abided by the general principles of human rights, Zhu said, noting that China has committed itself to improving its' human rights conditions and the well-being of the Chinese people.

Zhu also pointed out that China has put "administering the nation in line with law" into the Constitution and it has adopted a series of measures to promote democracy and legal construction.
