Int'l Machine Tool Show Opens in Taiwan

The 2001 Taipei International Machine Tool Show, the third largest of its kind in the world, was kicked off Tuesday at the Taipei World Trade Center, according to Taiwan local media.

The biyearly event has drawn over 500 local companies and companies from the United States, Germany, Italy, Japan, France, Australia, Sweden, Switzerland and Holland. More than 2,000 booths were set up.

Booths at the show have been divided into various categories, including metal-cutting tools such as lathes and electrical discharge machines, and metal forming machine tools.

Statistics show that Taiwan's machine tool exports and imports grew 31.9 percent and 64.1 percent last year. The major markets for Taiwan's machine tools are the Chinese mainland and other Asian countries.
