China Organizes "World Planetary Vision"

With full of jubilation upon seeing the sun's first rays in the Spring of 2001, Chinese scholars convened Tuesday dawn at the prestigious Great Wall for the activity of "World Planetary Vision."

In response to Hungarian scientists' proposal, China Materialism Society, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) Philosophy Institute and the Social Sciences Documentation Publishing House jointly organized the activity, which urges people to improve their global consciousness as well as protect the natural and ecological environment.

The activity in Beijing was part of a series throughout the world, including 28 cities such as Auckland, New Zealand, Fukuoka, Japan, Budapest, Hungary, Paris, France, and New York, the United States.

The Chinese social scientists specifically chose the Great Wall, which was enlisted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as World Heritage, as place for the activity.

Min Jiayin, a philosopher and research professor with CASS, said that the global exchange and cooperation should be further enhanced in the new century.

"The people should cultivate a better consciousness for caring for others, caring for nature and caring about the future," Min said.

The series of "World Planetary Vision" activities will last until September, sources said.
