Chinese Police Seize Drugs, Korean Suspects
Police in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province seized a huge amount of drugs and detained two suspects from the Republic of Korea (ROK).
The police in Qitaihe city have confiscated 8.27 kilograms of the drug crystal ice, over 620 kilograms of liquid drugs, over 740 kilograms of powder drugs, and almost 1,400 kilograms of raw materials for making drugs.
Lee Jung Bok and Kim Wov Taek, two major suspects from the ROK, were detained. They confessed that the drugs were mainly sold to the ROK and Japan.
The case involves the largest amount of drugs ever to be investigated in northeast China, according to the police. It is also one of the major such cases in China over the past years.
Lee Jung Bok, 54, was put on the wanted list by the Chinese Ministry of Public Security last year because he escaped with huge amount of drugs after he was found processing ice in Acheng City of Heilongjiang Province.
Lee and Kim arrived at Qitaihe City in January this year. They rented a warehouse and moved in some worn woodworking machines, saying that they would manufacture furniture.
They aroused the suspicion of the police, however, since the plant has not been registered, not a single piece of furniture had been made, Chinese workers were changed daily, the workshop declined visitors, and Lee and Kim were frequently found busy in the darkroom where lots of chemicals were stored. They claimed that they were making cosmetics.
The police unveiled the secret on March 6. Also seized on the spot were a whole set of processing equipment and raw materials made in ROK, Japan, and the United States. Six Chinese employees have also been under supervision.
The case is still under further investigation.
