Chinese Top Trade Union Leader Meets Japanese Guests

Wei Jianxing, president of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU), met Monday with a delegation of the Japan-China Skilled Workers Exchange Center, led by its president, Taihei Bldg.

Wei, also a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, briefed the guests on China's political and economic situation, as well as the work of the trade unions.

He said the realization of the tenth five-year plan (2001-2005) calls for the efforts of Chinese workers.

He noted that Chinese trade unions will rely on the workers and try their best to protect their legal rights.

The unions will also do its utmost to activate the enthusiasm and creativity of the workers in fulfilling the goals of the tenth five-year plan, Wei said.

The unions should further improve the various working mechanisms to boost efficiency and protect the legal interests of their member workers, he noted.

Taihei Bldg spoke highly of the achievements China has made during the past two decades, adding that he will continue to make efforts toward the promotion of exchanges between the workers of the two countries and the friendship between the two peoples.

The Japanese guests are here at the invitation of the China Workers' Center for International Exchange.
