Domestic- and Foreign- Enterprise Employees' Income Gap Nears 4,000 Yuan

News from Beijing Local Taxes Bureau shows that individual income taxes collected from taxpayers of domestic enterprises and foreign-funded companies constituted a fairly large portion last year, but the income gap between employees of the two kinds of enterprises approximated 4,000 yuan.

Statistics indicate that the bureau levied 2.47 billion yuan from domestic enterprises and institutions, and 2.45 billion yuan from foreign-funded companies in 2000. Tax payers from domestic enterprises numbered 2.66 million, paying an average monthly tax of 77 yuan, while those from foreign-funded companies numbered 370,000, paying 551 yuan of tax per month.

Sources say, except for difference in individual income forms, calculated in terms of salary, a monthly tax payment of 77 yuan for a domestic enterprise worker shows his or her monthly income comes to 1,920 yuan; while a monthly tax payment of 551 yuan for an employee with a foreign-funded company indicates that his or her monthly income stands at 5,630 yuan. So the income gap between the two kinds of enterprise workers approaches 4,000 yuan.

It is also reported that the average wage of Beijing employees came to 15,726 yuan last year, registering a 14.1 percent increase of 1,948 yuan over the year before.
