S. African President to Visit Cuba

South African President Thabo Mbeki will embark on a three-day state visit to Cuba later this month, South Africa's Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.

Mbeki, who is to meet Cuban President Fidel Castro during his visit between March 27 and 29, will be accompanied by several cabinet ministers, including Foreign Minister Nkosazana Dlamini- Zuma and Education Minister Kader Asmal.

Mbeki and Castro will discuss, among others, bilateral relations, the Millennium Africa Renaissance Plan and the forth- coming International Conference on Racism scheduled for South Africa's coastal city of Durban in August, said Foreign Affairs Deputy Director General Ndumiso Ntshinga in a press briefing in Pretoria.

Several outstanding agreements are expected to be signed, Ntshinga said.

He said South Africa and Cuba have good political relations which Pretoria wants to expand into economic development.

"We want to concretely look at opportunities that exist in Cuba so that South African companies can benefit," he said.

While in Cuba, Mbeki will also deliver a lecture on the African Renaissance at the University of Havana.

Mbeki's visit follows that of Dlamini-Zuma early last month.
