China Calls for Peaceful Solution to Kosovo, Macedonian CrisisForeign Minister Tang Jiaxuan Monday called on all parties concerned to solve discrepancies through consultation and strive to maintain peace, stability and development in Southeast Europe. In his talks with Croatian Foreign Minister Tonino Picula, Tang noted that the recent spread of the Kosovo crisis into Macedonia has brought new turbulence to the region. "China is concerned about the deteriorating situation in Macedonia, which we believe will bring about serious impact on the regional stability," Tang said, adding that China supports the efforts of the international community in maintaining stability in Macedonia. "As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, we will watch the development of the regional situation as usual," Tang said. He stressed that the cornerstones of China's policy towards this issue are the UN Charter and other accepted international principles as well as the fundamental interests of the people in the region. "While all parties concerned should seek to solve disputes through consultation, other parties should strive to ease the tension, rather than further complicate the situation by interfering in the internal affairs of the nations concerned out of strategic needs or for self benefits," Tang said. "China always proposes that all parties concerned should abide by the resolution number 1244 of the UN Security Council, and find a peaceful solution to the problem through political dialogs and under the pre-condition of observing the present international boundaries," Tang said. He said China appreciates the efforts made by Croatia in seeking regional peace and stability, and is willing to enhance communication and exchange views with Croatia.
