India Asks Pakistan to Expedite Release of Detained Fishermen

India Monday asked Pakistan to expedite the release of the 138 Indian fishermen who strayed into its waters last week.

A Foreign Office spokesman said, "We are in touch with Pakistani authorities in this matter and we are in the process of seeking early consular access as well as early release and repatriation of the fishermen taken into Pakistani custody."

In a goodwill gesture, India last month unilaterally decided to release 160 Pakistani fishermen who were under detention for illegally entering Indian waters.
