China Has More Than 90 Million Cable TV Users

The number of cable television clients has surpassed 90 million, an annual increase of five million in the last few years, with over 3,000 cable television networks at the community level, over 2,000 at the county level, and over 1,000 run by enterprises, an official said Monday.

In the 10th Five-Year Plan period (2001-2005), the number of local cable television customers is expected to reach 120 million, said Chen Xiaoning, director of Information Network Center of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television.

Addressing an international forum on the high-level management of the cable television industry, he said that in the next few years, the country will try hard to develop high-speed broadband information networks, promote integration among telecommunications, television and computer networks.
