Xinjiang's Textile Production Ranks Sixth in China

Xinjiang, one of China's five autonomous regions, has become the most important textile giant in China's northwest region, both its cotton and wool products scale rank sixth in China, and top the five provinces and autonomous regions in northwest China.

According to Xinjiang Economy, by the end of last year, the region had possessed 1.83 million cotton spindles, 12,000 cotton looms, 118,000 wool spindles, with annual apparel production reaching 22 million. More than 118,000 workers engaged in textile industry with added value topping 1.68 billion yuan in 2000.

Statistics show that the annual textile import and export volume accounts for 30 percent in the region's foreign trade volume. The Tianshan- and Fujiang-brands of Xinjiang Textile Group enjoy a very good reputation in Europe and East Asia with annual export volume amounting to US $45 million, ranking fourth in China's textile industry.
