German Politician Accuses US of Giving Consent to Albanian Rebels

Willy Wimmer, a defense expert from Germany's main opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU), accuses the US troops of approving the armed activities of Albanian rebels in Macedonia.

The German newspaper "Die Welt" in its Sunday edition quoted Wimmer as saying that "what we experience here, is by no accident, but originated under the eyes of and with the help of US Army".

Wimmer, who was formerly a state secretary in Germany's defense ministry and is now a member of Bundestag (lower chamber of the parliament) said that "not a mouse moves without being noticed by KFOR" and that the infiltrating of Albanian rebels in neighboring regions must be approved by the United States.

Wimmer called on the German government to urge Washington to coordinate Balkan policy with European governments and not to "blink" before the Albanian rebels.

Wimmer said that the Kosovo Albanians have long sought to set up their own state. "If we tolerate that, we open the Pandora box, " he said.
