Exports, Foreign Investment Increase in Inner Mongolia

North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has seen an increase in exports and foreign investment over the past five years, according to official trade sources.

The customs statistics indicate that the total imports and exports over the past five years hit US$6.6 billion, an annual increase of 13 percent.

More than 1,000 enterprises in the region have been granted the right to engage in direct import and export.

Officials said the government had spent 300 million yuan (US$3.7 million) to enhance the facilities of border cities in order to strengthen their capacity for international trade.

In the five years, the region had utilized US$430 million and approved the establishment of 48 foreign-funded enterprises.
