Research on High-yield Corn Pays OffA government-sponsored research project on gaining high-yields with corn has been approved after being examined by experts and paid for in northeast China's Jilin Province.The province, an important grain base in the country, achieved an output increment of 11.5 billion kilograms, contributing a profit of 11 billion yuan (US$1.3 billion) over the past five years, according to official statistics. The harvest augment in the province over the past five years can feed a developing nation with a population of about 30 million in one year, as indicated by related governmental departments. The high yield is due to a breed of fine seeds, utilization of organic fertilizer, efficient irrigation, prevention of insect pest and diseases, and adoption of genetic technology, said experts of the province. |
