Palestinians, Israel Hold Security Meeting at Erez
Palestinian and Israeli security officials met at the Erez border crossing between Israel and the Gaza Strip Saturday evening to discuss the re-establishment of security co-ordination and reducing Palestinian-Israeli confrontations, said Palestinian security sources.
This was the first security meeting between the Palestinians and Israel since Israeli new Prime Minister Ariel Sharon took office earlier this month.กก
Israeli and Palestinian security officials had held three rounds of such meetings before but failed to reach any concrete agreement on restoring security cooperation.
The ongoing clashes between the Israeli troops and the Palestinians, which have rocked the region for more than five months, have so far left more than 420 people dead, mostly Palestinians, and thousands others injured.
