Macao Holds 20th Greening Week

Macao Holds 20th Greening Week
The 20th Greening Week was inaugurated in Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Saturday.

Macao residents planted trees, grew flowers and attended various activities to beautify the environment in response to the call from the SAR government: "Creating A Green, New City."

Pupils were seen pruning trees in downtown parks, while high school students were drawing the colorful nature on street enclosures.

Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao SAR, awarded special prizes for the outstanding individuals and organizations contributing to the greening course at the opening ceremony of the event Saturday afternoon.

"I especially love the greens in Macao," said Miss Zhou, a tourist from Beijing. She joined with hundreds of local residents to play games related to greening at Haojing Park, where the ceremony was being held.

Statistics show that the areas covered with grass, trees and flowers have reached about 600,000 square meters in Macao Peninsula alone.

There will be more than 50 activities during the week, including tree planting, competitions, camping, lectures and the issuance of green stamps. Visitors can also see flower beds designed by local residents at an exhibition.
