Feature: "I Am Dreaming of Going to China""I am very happy to see the photos of China which are very impressive in reflecting the tremendous progress that China has made in the recent years," J.N. Ghimire, a government employee, told Xinhua at the week-long China photo exhibition that ended in Kathmandut Thursday."These photos are both familiar and new to me," Ghimire went on. "Familiar because I went to some cities of China five years ago and saw the beautiful country with my own eyes, while new because the photos reflect the progress and changes in China's economic development." On display at the exhibition entitled "Focus On China" were 66 selected photos by 13 celebrated photographers from 11 countries, including the United States, Japan, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Russia. The photographers toured almost all the provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions of China over half a year and produced more than 1,000 charming photos which, taken with consciousness, preciseness and sincerity of the artists, present to the whole world a true and fascinating China, demonstrating the landscape and people's daily life of the present-day China. Dinesh Rai, a Nepali photographer working for a magazine, appreciated the photos with an professional view. "They gave us a new inspiration. They are ingenious in conception, unique in style and tell the stories lively and accurately of a fast-changing China," said Rai. "I have never been to China, but I have learnt from these photos that China is a great country, with a lot of diversity, a lot of progress and modernization and a rich cultural heritage," he said. "Now I have a stronger desire than ever before to visit China and take more pictures of the miraculous country and lovely people with my camera," said the Nepali photographer, with an armful of booklets and magazines about China that were provided to visitors at the exhibition hall. "I am sure these booklets will advance my knowledge about China and help me to fulfill my aspiration," he added. Rai was voicing the wishes of many visitors to the exhibition. Sunil Threstha, a student of economics from Nepal's best-known Tribhuvan University, showed great interest in the tremendous economic achievements China has made during the recent decades and expressed wishes to know everything about China. "This exhibition has quenched my thirst to some degree and I hope more such shows will follow in future," he said. Rai's friend who majors in foreign trade echoed: "These photos have brought me closer to a wonderful country that often comes in my dreams. I have been dreaming of going to China and work for the promotion of Nepal-China relations, especially trade exchanges between our two countries," said the enthusiastic young man. Before leaving, the two young men took efforts in collecting a lot of booklets and magazines from the equally enthusiastic big crowds surrounding the bookshelf that displayed a series of booklets and magazines such as Pictorial China, An Introduction to China and China's Economic Achievements. The week-long exhibition proved a success and attracted hundreds of visitors each day, according to an official from the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, the co-organizer of the exhibition. The show has served the purpose of better acquainting "our Nepalese friends with more updated information about modern China," thus further strengthening the traditional friendly relations between the two neighboring countries that share the same Himalayans, said the official.
