Tibet Develops Profit-making Planting

Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region has been making efforts to plant profit-making bushes and trees, with tea, orange and tung plantations in recent years.

This has not only made the previously barren mountains green, but also make abundant profits for local farmers.

So far, some 38 of the region's 71 counties have developed 405 profit-making plantations, totaling 1.2 million trees on an area of 3,300 hectares.

This year the region reported an annual production of dry and fresh fruits with a value of 50 million yuan (about US$6 million).

The annual production volume of oranges, tea and tung seeds has reached 150,000, 115,000 and 75,000 kg, respectively.
