Shanghai Encourages Reporting Fake GoodsShanghai, China's leading industrial and commercial city, has just announced a series of measures to encourage residents to report the production and marketing of fake and shoddy goods. The reward for reporting where fake and shoddy goods are sold or being made can be as high as 200,000 yuan, according to the announcement. The bounty for reporting a major case can be more, the announcement revealed. An official with the municipal government said the move is part of a national effort to curb the production and marketing of fake and shoddy goods. It is aimed at prompting more local residents to help prevent the manufacturing and selling of fake and inferior goods, the official added. Nationwide, China has stepped up efforts to protect the rights of consumers by strengthening related legislation and the role of relevant government departments exercising supervision over markets. A national conference will be held concerning the cracking down on shoddy goods and fake products this year.
