Israeli Embassy Donates for Beijing University

The Israeli Embassy to China donated teaching facilities and books to the prestigious Beijing University Friday to boost Hebrew teaching.

Vice-President Min Weifang of Beijing University and Israeli Ambassador to China Itzhak Yaakov Shelef attended the donation ceremony Friday morning.

The donation includes computers, televisions, video tape recorders, DVD players, furniture and books on Israel, Judaism and the Middle East.

Beijing University is the first to launch systematic teaching of Hebrew in China. Founded in 1985, its Hebrew language and culture program has trained some 20 Hebrew-speaking professionals who are now working for Chinese government administrations, media and research institutes.

The Israeli government also sends experts to teach Hebrew at the university every year.
