Indian Defence Minister Resigns
India
n Defence Minister George Fernandes resigned Thursday in the wake of an arms bribery scandal, state-run television Doordashan reported.
Doordashan flashed the news of Fernandes' resignation on the screen during a scheduled news programme.
Fernandes is the latest and most prominent victim of a scandal that has rocked the ruling coalition government, and already claimed the scalp of ruling BJP party president Bangaru Laxman.
