HK to Build Anti-Drug Exhibition Hall

Hong Kong will start to build an exhibition hall dedicated to drug prevention in May this year, said Hong Kong Commissioner for Narcotics Clarie Lo Thursday.

"It will be the first ever permanent exhibition facility dedicated to drug prevention in Hong Kong, and indeed in the Asia Pacific Region," Lo said after a meeting of the Action Committee Against Narcotics.

Educating young people on the harm of psychotropic substance abuse would be the central theme of the exhibition hall, she said.

The exhibition hall would form the second phase of a Drug InfoCentre, of which the first phase, a multi-purpose room and a volunteers meeting room, has been opened to the public since June 2000.

"We hope to educate young people and students through interactive exhibits, informative and interesting displays, as well as audio-visual presentations. It is also our aim to involve parents and teachers as much as possible in drug prevention through services and activities organized at the Drug InfoCentre," Lo added.

The construction works on the exhibition hall are scheduled to take about 14 months to complete, she said.

Pre-Holiday Anti-Drug Campaign Launched in HK

With Christmas and New Year around the corner, the Narcotics Division of Hong Kong launched an anti-drug publicity drive to step up drug warning at places frequented by young people Monday.

Apart from this campaign, arrangements have been made to increase the frequency of broadcasting a new Announcement in the Public Interest (API) on psychotropic substance abuse targeting young people on television and radio during the festive season. Arrangement will also be made to broadcast the API in cinemas
