Iran Refutes UN Report on Its Human Rights Situation

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi here on Thursday strongly refutes a recent United Nations human rights report on Iran, calling it "blatant interference" in internal affairs of the country, Iran's official news agency IRNA reported.

UN special rapporteur on Iran Maurice Copithorne said in a report earlier this week that violations of human rights in the country continued.

Asefi pointed out that such allegations are the repetition of " poisonous propaganda attempts" against Iran, adding that orientation of Iran's enemies' propaganda ploy are evident in the report.

He noted that the report has been compiled by relying on biased sources and thus is totally based on double standards, adding that it runs contrary to the realities in the Iranian society.

The spokesman said that the international community has been frowning on the continuation of the unilateral interpretation of human rights and regretted that attempts are hidden behind such reports for the imposition of a mono-cultural system.

"By relying on the sublime teachings of Islamic principles and the constitution, Iran feels duty bound to promote human dignity in the Iranian society and preserve respect and prestige of its citizens," Asefi stressed.

The official added that Iran's real status of human rights in the public opinion of the world is much higher than the report asserted.
