New Technology City Established in East China

The Heifei High-tech Development Zone -- China's first state-level high-tech development zone in east China's Anhui Province, has developed into a new scientific technology city combining research, production and development after 10 years of development.

An official with the zone said the zone has completed over 1.7 billion yuan in infrastructure facility investment, construction of over 1.7 million square meters of buildings, and it has realized optic fiber cable communication.

The zone has witnessed the establishment of the country's first share-holding bank, a joint venture real estate development company, and the province's first leasing land corporation.

It has attracted over 1.9 billion yuan of domestic investment last year. Nearly 700 enterprises have invested a total of 9.7 billion yuan in the past 10 years, 150 of which are foreign invested ones from the United States, Japan, Canada and Australia,involving over 600 million U.S.dollars of investment.

In 2000, the zone realized 12.2 billion yuan of revenue, and over 11.4 billion yuan in income.
