Internet Ad Revenue More than Doubled in 2000

Online advertisement revenue in Hong Kong reached 167 million HK dollars (US$21.4 million) for the first nine months of 2000, representing a 114 percent growth over the same period in 1999, a report issued Wednesday said.

The reported, issued by the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) Hong Kong, also reported that ad revenues rose to 69 million HK dollars (US$8.84 million) in the third quarter of 2000, a 15 million HK dollars (US$1.92 million) or 28 percent increase over the second quarter and a 57 percent rise over the first-quarter.

"The significant increase during the first three quarters of 2000, compared to the same period in 1999, underscored the increasing acceptance of on-line advertising as a marketing medium and a key factor in the overall market mix," said Vivian Lau, Chairperson of IAB Hong Kong.

According to the report, the categories which lead online ad revenues in the first three quarters of 2000 were Consumer-Related, at 54 percent, Computing products, at 12 percent, followed by Telecoms, Business and Financial Services.
