Ad Industry Booming in Tibet
The advertising sector in southwest China's
Tibet
Autonomous Region has developed by leaps and bounds in recent years, with the business volume hitting 12 million yuan (about 1.44 million US dollars) in 2000, up 23 percent over the figure for 1999.
Sources from the autonomous regional bureau for industry and commerce said that the advertising industry has become one of the most booming economic sectors in Tibet.
More and more enterprises in the region have opened up and put more investment into advertisements for their products.
Instead of distributing advertising materials outdoor, the enterprises began to make their products known via formal ad channels including newspaper and television advertising services.
An official with the bureau said that the ad market in Tibet has great potential yet to be tapped and ad awareness among the public is still weak.
The official believes that the involvement of both enterprises and local people is conducive to the development of the region's advertising industry.
