China Sentences Chief Criminal to Death
A local court in this capital of east China's Zhejiang Province sentenced the leader of a 30-strong gang of criminals to death Tuesday.
This is believed to be the biggest gang ever brought to justice in Zhejiang, a local official said.
According to the 120-page-long court verdict, since 1995 Zhang Wei, the gang's head, and his followers had commited some 50 crimes, killing one person and seriously injuring five.
The court verdict also said that the gang acquired some US$ one million through illegal means.
The other gang members were sentenced to prison terms.
