U.S. Official Says Bush-Mori Summit 'Waste of Time': NY Times

A senior U.S. administration official has suggested that it is a ''waste of time'' for President George W. Bush to meet with politically embattled Japanese Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori next week but ''protocol requires it,'' the New York Times said Wednesday.

The newspaper said the unnamed senior official made the comment amid speculation that Mori, who faces intense pressure from his ruling coalition to step down, could barely stay in office to cope with a battered Japanese economy.
